And when you
undress before bed,
remember to dispose
of your worries too.
They have a bad habit
of sticking to your skin
if unattended.

It’s really hard to respect a parent that reacts explosively to everything. It is disgusting the way our culture nurtures egotistical, defiant, arrogant, self-absorbed patriarchs that feel entitled to the utmost respect without actually doing anything to deserve it. It upsets me that my own blood is part of the problem. Rigidity at its finest. Sometimes our own family is the biggest test of this dunya and sometimes knowing that is what makes it all the more heartbreaking and painful as part of the suffering.
If you have a large group of friends which are all Muslim, don’t ever take that for granted. It is a bigger blessing than you realise to be in company of people on the same journey. Some of us spend a lot of our time in the depth of the night just praying to Allah that we find people who will share the love of this religion with us and who can help elevate our imaan, as we can theirs. So if you have righteous friends by your side, cherish them. They are rare, and you are blessed.
